A California man was arrested after authorities said he slipped inside a chimney to burglarize a business but got stuck instead.
Jesse Berube, who police called a “criminal Santa,” had to call 911 to be rescued from the narrow chimney he crawled into on Dec. 13 to allegedly gain access into the business, the Citrus Heights Police Department said in a news release. Authorities said he wiggled “just enough” to be able to call for help.
Citrus Heights Police Department report:
On Wednesday, December 13, 2017, our communication center received a 911 call from a male stating he was stuck inside of a chimney to a business located in the 6900 block of Greenback Lane. The male was identified as 32-year-old Jesse Berube, from Rocklin.
CHPD officers, along with the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, arrived on scene and located Berube inside of the chimney. Berube slid down the chimney in an attempt to gain entry into the business; however, Berube was unsuccessful and became lodged, and unable to exit the chimney. Fortunately, Berube was able to move just enough to call for help.
The fire department had to utilize special equipment to extricate Berube from the chimney. Berube was physically uninjured and was arrested for burglary.
