Former Rep. (D-Texas) sought to quash any speculation that he could end his presidential campaign and run for Senate as an alternative, saying that he would not “in any scenario” run for a seat in the upper chamber.

“I will not in any scenario run for the United States Senate,” O’Rourke said on MSNBC Thursday. “I am operating for president. I am operating for this nation. I am taking this battle straight to Donald Trump and that is what I am solely targeted on accomplishing suitable now.”

O’Rourke’s remarks come as he seeks to breathe new existence into his stagnating presidential campaign. O’Rourke electrified Texas Democrats and rose to nationwide prominence by virtually unseating Sen.  (R-Texas) in 2018, but the former congressman has struggled to obtain traction considering the fact that coming into the crowded Democratic major discipline in March.

He a short while ago re-entered the nationwide spotlight after the Aug. three mass shooting in his hometown of El Paso, Texas, that left 22 persons dead. O’Rourke took a 12-day break from the campaign trail to return to El Paso, wherever he has been meeting with households of victims and residents in El Paso considering the fact that the Aug. three shooting.

The Houston Chronicle on Saturday identified as on O’Rourke to finish his presidential campaign and run for Senate as an alternative, immediately after he gave a passionate reply to a reporter about what could do to stop mass shootings.

“What do you imagine? You know the shit he’s been saying,” O’Rourke said of the president. “He’s been calling Mexican immigrants rapists and criminals. I really do not know, like, members of the press, what the f—?” The response promptly went viral.

The paper’s editorial board wrote that his reply “produced us want O’Rourke would shift gears, and rather than unpause his presidential campaign, we’d like to see him consider a new route.”

Calls for the O’Rourke to drop out and challenge Sen.  (R-Texas) have intensified as his presidential run has struggled for traction.

A RealClearPolitics regular of polls has O’Rourke in sixth place in the crowded discipline of Democratic White Property hopefuls with a polling regular of two %.
