RNC’s McDaniel: GOP Energy With Trump

Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel on Sunday said Nebraska GOP Sen. Ben Sasse’s withering critique of President Donald Trump during a phone call to constituents “does not resemble” the president’s accomplishments.

In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” McDaniel said there’s no warfare between Trump and GOP senators. “Everything that Ben Sasse said in that recording does not resemble the president that has led our country out of this pandemic. He’s led us to a great economy before this,” she said.

“And the president has unprecedented approval with the Republican Party,” she said.

“I’m not worried about Washington Beltway politics,” McDaniel declared.

“The party, and the energy we’re seeing on the ground, and the rallies, and what we’re seeing for this president is unprecedented in terms of the support he’s receiving from Republicans,” she said.

McDaniel asserted there’s “huge energy” for Trump with voters.

“We are seeing really great numbers coming out for the president,” she said. “And this is a race. And any Republican that doesn’t recognize that running with the president is going to help them is hurting themselves in the long run.”

She also slammed Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for blaming Trump’s rhetoric as part of the motive that fueled a death plot against her — and defended Trump for going along with a rally chant to “lock her up.”

“The president and his FBI foiled this plot,” she said. “And I think Governor Whitmer is really inappropriate to try to lay blame at the president. These were sick individuals. There was no political affiliation.”

“She locked us down,” McDaniel added about Whitmer’s coronavirus order.

“What people are saying in Michigan, ‘please let us open up, let our kids go back to school.’ That’s what they’re talking about. They’re not threatening our governor. And she’s taking it way too far once again.”

McDaniel also dismissed Trump’s controversial refusal to condemn QAnon.

“It’s something the voters are not thinking about,” she said, saying of her own view: “Dismiss them out of hand, They are a fringe group.”
