President Donald Trump said sending out mail-in ballots is a bigger threat to the integrity of the election in November than foreign interference, according to The Hill.
“Our biggest threat to this election is governors from opposing parties controlling ballots, millions of ballots,” Trump said at a White House press conference. “To me that’s a much bigger threat than foreign countries because much of the stuff coming out about foreign countries turned out to be untrue.”
U.S. intelligence officials have cautioned that Iran, China and Russia are trying to interfere in the presidential election this November. Russia has already been accused of meddling in the 2016 election.
Trump and Attorney General William Barr, however, have said paper ballots are easy for foreign countries to manipulate. influence the election this year.
Multiple states plan to mail out more ballots than normal due to the coronavirus pandemic.
That includes 10 states that are sending out ballots to voters and others that are mailing absentee ballots applications.
“It’s very dangerous for our country,” Trump said. “And you know who knows that better than anybody? The Democrats.”
