President Trump warned two “anarchists” who vandalized a statue of George Washington that they may face 10 years of prison time.

Trump said Tuesday that his administration is tracking down two people who threw red paint on statues of George Washington in Washington Square Park in New York City. The individuals were captured on surveillance footage.

“We are tracking down the two Anarchists who threw paint on the magnificent George Washington Statue in Manhattan. We have them on tape,” Trump tweeted. “They will be prosecuted and face 10 years in Prison based on the Monuments and Statues Act. Turn yourselves in now!”

Footage shows two suspects throwing paint-filled balloons at the statues early in the morning. One of the suspects wore an N95 mask, a black shirt, and shorts and has blonde hair. The other wore a hockey mask concealing his or her face while wearing a black shirt and black jeans.

A worker with the New York City Parks Department cleaned the statues but told the New York Post that the act would result in some damage.

“This does do damage — you can see bits of the statue all over me,’’ he said. “It’s marble — it comes off.”
